Presets

A preset is a saved configuration you can reuse. With presets you can quickly build typical pages (a mixer, GM drum pads, an orchestral set), keep drum grooves and arpeggio patterns for other songs, and share your setups with other people.

The four libraries

RigAstra has four libraries. Each one has Factory presets, which come with the app, and User presets, which you create.

LibraryWhat it storesWhere you open itExchange file
Page PresetsThe whole page: controls, background, overrides and grid sizePerform > Pencil (Page Inspector) > Presets.rigastralayout
Arpeggiator PresetsSteps, lanes, velocities, gate, modulations, loop, sync, hold and chord memoriesArpeggiator > Presets.rigastraarp
Drum Player PresetsInstruments, the 8 patterns, steps, division, sync, retrig and channelDrum Player > Presets.rigastrapatterns

Use, save and manage presets

The page, arpeggiator and Drum Player preset panels all work the same way:

  1. Choose the Factory or User tab.
  2. Tap a preset to apply it.
  3. To create a user preset, type a name and tap Save. If a preset with that name already exists, RigAstra asks you to confirm Overwrite.
  4. In the User list, swipe a row to Delete it (you’ll be asked to confirm) or hold it (about 0.6 seconds) to Rename it.
  5. Export creates a file to share. Import adds a file to the User library but doesn’t apply it: tap it in the list afterwards to use it.

Applying a page preset replaces the whole page: controls, background and overrides.

Saved Scenes

Saved Scenes are full copies of a scene. You manage them from the scene actions: hold a scene in the scene list and tap Save to make the copy, or pick one from the Saved Scenes list and tap Load to replace the selected scene with it. See Scenes and pages.

On iPhone and iPad, the Factory tab shows the presets for your type of device (phone or tablet), without filtering by orientation. There are no factory page presets for iPad in portrait.

Arpeggiator

There are 27 presets: INIT, Up 1/16, Up 1/8, UpDown 1/16, Down 1/16, Random 1/16, Chord 1/8, Triplet 1/8T, Triplet 1/16T, Up 1/32, Octave Up 1/16, Pulse 1/4, Sparse 1/8, Swing 1/16, Gate 1/16, UpDown 1/8, UpDown 1/8T, Chord 1/16, Chord 1/4, Triplet 1/4T, Staccato 1/16, Octave UpDown 1/16, Motif 1/16, Broken Chord 1/16, Poly 1/8, Syncopated 1/16 and Triplet Motif 1/8T.

The names refer to note orders (Up, Down, Random), octaves and swing, but the current arpeggiator engine doesn’t apply orders, octaves or swing. See Arpeggiator.

Drum Player

There are 2 presets: INIT and Basic 1, the latter with 5 instruments (Kick, Snare, HH, Tom and Op HH).

Limitations

  • User presets are stored on the device and aren’t included in the Settings backups: export them one by one if you want to keep them or take them to another device.
  • Saved Scenes have no export of their own. To share a scene, use Export in the scene actions.
  • Between iPhone, iPad and Android, only arpeggiator presets transfer without problems today. See Files and backups.
