"Joyful, Joyful" is the show-stopping gospel arrangement from Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993), based on Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" from his Ninth Symphony. In the film, it's performed by Lauryn Hill and the student choir in an unforgettable scene that blends classical music with gospel energy. The arrangement — with its call-and-response vocals, driving rhythm, and explosive choir — has become one of the most beloved gospel performances in cinema history.

I originally recorded this instrumental years ago using the sequencer on my Korg Trinity V3pro workstation. After a long search, I found the file with the original sequence and exported it to MIDI. The process of reviving these old MIDI files is never simple — I had to adjust controller ranges (Mod Wheel, Pitch Bend, Expression), remap percussion instruments that weren't in General MIDI order, and work within the original 16-track limitation where instruments like cowbell, agogo bell, triangle, and shaker all shared a single percussion kit channel.

After replacing every sound with modern virtual instruments in Pro Tools, the result breathes new life into the arrangement while preserving the original performance feel. You can get the full stems of this instrumental on Loop Community:
