Memory (Star Wars Style) – Piano Guide Track: Structure, Melody & Chords
About this video
This video shows the piano guide track I recorded as the foundation for my Star Wars-style orchestration of "Memory" from Cats (composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Trevor Nunn based on T.S. Eliot), created for Whitney Avalon.
Before starting to record any orchestral instrument, I always build a structural reference: a piano playing the melody and chords, following the exact song structure with all tempo and key changes defined. This step is crucial because it lets me — and the client — see the complete arrangement boundaries before investing hours in full orchestration.
Whitney had very specific instructions: defined tempo, key changes, and the original song structure had to be respected. Once she approved this piano foundation, I had the green light to dive into the symphonic instruments — French horns, strings, woodwinds, and percussion — weaving in John Williams-style Star Wars motifs throughout.
