Memory (Star Wars Style) – Musical Hints: Force Theme, Leia, Rey & Anakin
About this video
This video highlights the Star Wars musical references I wove into my orchestral arrangement of "Memory" (from Cats) for Whitney Avalon.
The challenge wasn't to recreate full Star Wars songs — it was to capture the spirit and style of John Williams' scoring while honoring Andrew Lloyd Webber's original composition. The approach I chose was to embed subtle melodic hints — small fragments of famous Star Wars themes — at key emotional moments in the arrangement.
Throughout the orchestration, you can hear references to:
- The Force Theme (Binary Sunset) — the most iconic Star Wars melody
- Leia's Theme — romantic and sweeping
- Rey's Theme — from the sequel trilogy
- Anakin's Theme — innocent and bittersweet
Whitney gave me her custom-written lyrics for the track, which was incredibly helpful in knowing exactly where to place each reference for maximum emotional impact. As a lifelong Star Wars fan who has been listening to John Williams' soundtracks for years — not just in the movies but in dedicated listening sessions — this project was a true Jedi adventure.
